No-Till Drill Rental Program
In 2005, the Perry County Conservation District hired one additional staff person to administer a no-till drill rental program as part of the Chesapeake Bay Program. The first drill was leased by the District with the option to buy using a Growing Greener No-till Pilot grant as well as a Growing Greener No-till Incentive grant.
The purpose of the drill, and the additional staff person, is to promote the use of a no-till crop production system including cover crops, provide affordable well-maintained equipment for rent, and provide exceptional service and technical support to farmers wanting to use the equipment and convert to no-till farming. In 2006, a second no-till drill was purchased as a Chesapeake Bay Special Project to offer additional seeding capabilities, mainly native/warm season grass seeding capability. The program has been a great success since its initiation and in recent years has averaged about two thousand acres of no-till each year. The program currently offers one John Deere Model 1590 Drill, one John Deere 1590 Pro Series Drill, one Land Pride Model 606NT Drill, and one Esch 5612 Model Drill.

Requirements: Minimum 100 HP Tractor with 2 remote hydraulic valves
Rental Rates: $10/acre for any seed planted
A drop fee of $25.00 will be applied to renters that plant 5 acres or less.
An optional Seed Rate Calibration is available as an additional service for a fee of $30.00.
A per-deim fee of $25.00 will be issued to the renter on the third morning that the drill is in use.
